Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection prevalent in countries where there is limited access to clean water and sanitation. Symptoms are acute diarrhoea and vomiting with risk of dehydration.

 

When?

Adults require two doses given one week apart, so at least two weeks prior to travel.

What?

The cholera vaccine is given in liquid form as a drink.

Side Effects?

Possible fever, headache or digestive issues.

Suitable for children?

The vaccine is suitable for children age  two or above.

Additional Precautions:

Whilst in areas of risk you are advised to practise careful food, hand and water hygiene.

Preparation for your Appointment:

Avoid eating, drinking and, if possible, taking medication for one hour prior to your appointment.
