DTP Vaccination (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio)

The DTP is a highly effective combined vaccine which prevents infection from diphtheria, tetanus and polio.  It is usually administered during  childhood, and booster vaccinations may be advisable after 10 years when travelling to certain countries which are identified as high risk for infections. 

 

When?

Given as a single dose booster injection at least two weeks before travel.  For persons who have not had the vaccine before, additional injections may be required.  Protection lasts for ten years.

What?

The vaccine is given as an injection in the upper arm.

Side Effects?

Possible soreness at the site of the injection.

Suitable for children?

The vaccine is suitable for children aged ten or above.
