Transmitted by mosquitos, this viral infection leads to inflammation of the brain and neurological complications but is preventable thanks to vaccination.  Persons travelling to high risk areas are advised to seek advise about inoculation as there is no cure for this disease if contracted.

When?

Adults require two doses the second being administered 28 days after the first dose;  protection is seven days after the second dose, so inoculation should be given at least five weeks prior to travel.  Protection lasts for twelve months, after which time a booster may be given to provide an additional twelve months protection.

What?

The vaccine is given as an injection in the upper arm.

Side Effects?

Possible high temperature, muscle pain or digestive issues as well as soreness at the site of the injection.

Suitable for children?

The vaccine is suitable for children age  two months or above.

Additional Precautions:

Whilst in areas of risk you are advised to protect yourself against mosquito bites.
